Work Related Stress Survey - Background

Work related stress is a problem which impacts on both individuals and the organisations they work for.

Many work hours are lost due the effects of work related stress. The effects can take many forms, just as the causes of work related stress.

WRS often leads to illness, physical and/or mental. The question, "could WRS be avoided?", isn't as clear cut as first appears. Some people are naturally prone to 'stress'. Some stress is good, some bad.

Given that most work situations shouldn't create a highly stressed environment, it's often the way that people interact or their work methods which causes the problem.

Taking these two points (interaction and processes), if we can identify the problems, then a solution may be possible.

Taking the time to look at the problem is a good starting point and this is where an initial survey comes into play.

The Health and Safety Executive has created a work related stress analysis tool which includes a number of components to measure and analyse work related stress in the workplace. The tool is readily available from the HSE website, but it requires a degree of effort to implement a paper-based survey and then to collate the responses.

Stress-Research.co.uk has taken the initiative to develop an online WRS survey based on the HSE model. Our system is entirely web-based, thus removing the need for paper-based questionnaires. Our system also automatically collates responses removing the tedious collection and data entry issues associated with a traditional surveys.

Recognising that there are a number of potential 'clients' for WRS surveys, we have built a system which is suitable for employers, groups of employees, interest groups, voluntary organisations, etc.

The system is easy to use (see 'How it Works') and inexpensive . Our aim is to make the process available to anyone wishing to take the first step in analysing WRS in their place of work.
